Days of Belgrade

Days of Belgrade are dedicated, as anyone can tell, to the city itself. They are held every year from 16th to 19th April. This manifestation relates to two important dates. First is April 16, 878 A.D. when Slavic name "Belgrade" was first mentioned in a letter from Pope John VIII to the Bulgarian Prince Boris; second one is April 19, 1867 when Turkish commander Ali Riza pasha symbolically handed over keys of the city to Prince Mihailo. During these days, various cultural manifestations are organized all over the city.

International Knight's Tournament

Every June, you will have opportunity to see real knights in shining armors. This tournament is pure demonstration of medieval fighting techniques, music, iconography, heraldry, calligraphy, acrobats and jugglers.

BELEF is short for Belgrade Summer Festival, free international festival for theatrical, musical, dance and fine arts, as well as for performances and installations. After 20 successful years, in 2012 Belef took an extra step and developed into even bigger cultural event that lasts for two and a half months, from end of May to mid-August. As "Festival of Festivals" it brings together many events that are organized during whole year, which means that it includes reruns of some already held successful music, film and multidisciplinary festivals. All together, during two and a half festival months, Belef organizes more than 30 concerts, film festivals, thematic exhibitions and other interesting events.

The Night of Museums

The Night of Museums is an event of great cultural and tourist importance that takes place in over 120 cities worldwide, with the aim of creating a habit to visit museums primarily among members of younger generations, creating a new museum audience and a greater presence of these institutions in the media. Several years ago, Belgrade joined these world cities so that Belgradians and city visitors can enjoy museum exhibitions and programs throughout the early morning hours. Besides the unique opportunity to visit with only one card a number of cultural institutions and places that are not open on regular days, in most buildings is organized additional entertainment program, which aims to attract people who do not belong to the typical museum visitors.

Belgrade Design Week is the most important event of this kind in South East Europe since it gathers at one place the brightest and the most talented creative people from Serbia and abroad. BDW's mission is to make connections between some of the foremost creative minds on the planet, their ideas, their products, their processes and people who live, work and visit Belgrade. Central event of the BDW is annual conference and a cutting edge regional design show, which enables, besides exchange of ideas, opportunity to explore the gourmet and nightlife capital of the region - Belgrade.

Bitef is festival with long tradition (since 1967) and of international significance. It is focused on latest trends in theater and during years, it became one of the biggest and the most important European festivals. Held during September.
